How many synths did YOU own in '79?
Introducing Secret Selector Selections! Every friday, I'll be looking into the hidden record collections of some of Denmarks best DJs, producers and general music geeks.
The rules are simple: Give me five tracks. Preferably with some kind of theme. They must be amazing. They should be relatively unknown.
This first installment features my friend and partner in crime, Jack Rock.

Jack is an amazing producer and DJ. He has released records on Treibstoff, WiR, TicTacToe, Archipel and more. His productions are razor sharp techno, often with a catchy but unexpected melodic edge.
He's also one of my gurus when it comes to music production, analog gear and webdesign!
I always knew Jack Rock had a broad musical taste, but I was still surprised when he sent me this mix of prog rock and fusion jazz. I'm pretty stoked, cause these are genres I know absolutely nothing about. But I'm beginning to see where AIR (French Band) may have got a lot of their chilled inspirations from outer space from.
Lets have a look:
Theme: '78-'84 aka The Golden Age!
Sky - Son of Hotta (1983)
Prog rock when it's best. CR78-beat, an arrangement like a conservatory exam and a psyched out guitar solo. And the sound is just vinyl-crispies. Unfortunately uploaded in a quiet version, so turn up the volume.
Weather Report - Black Market (1978)
Joe Zawinul is one of a kind in jazz. In my opinion, these playfull melodies and world music influences make his music rise above the at times conform framework of fusion jazz.
"Black Market" is a something as rare as a melancholy and emotional track with happy major scales and bubbly rythyms. Great and unique art in my ears!
Ashra - Oasis (1979)
I was recently presented to Ashra by a friend on Facebook. It totally blew me away.
This track is from fucking 1979!!! Utterly unbeleivable!
Pat Metheny Group - End of the Game (1984)
Fusion jazz again. Often times, Pat Methenys music is too boring for me. Too much sports music lacking feeling or message.
But every now and then, he can rise above the scales and create some hypnotizing and gorgeous music, that sounds like something from a parallel world.
"End of game" is one of those tracks. Simple and sneaking. Listen to it in it's full length!
Roxy Music - The Space Between Us (1982)
No eighties list without Bryan Ferry!
When I listen to this track, I visualise the late cold war period as a room made of glas, where it's always night and it's always a party. The sound is cool and mild like a cloudy late summer, tempting you.
Notice how beautifully the synths and brass instruments melt together. So tightly arranged!
